Walk-in shower FAQs

General questions about bathrooms, fitting and MobilityPlus

A digital shower replaces the conventional valve with electronic controls. Instead of turning a stiff knob, you press a button or touch a control to start the shower and set the temperature, which is easier to manage with reduced grip or dexterity. Push button and touch versions are both available.

Digital showers are designed to work with all the Mobility Plus walk-in shower ranges, and are compatible with most plumbing systems. Whether yours can be adapted depends on your existing setup, so that gets checked before anything is quoted. A survey confirms it before anything is ordered.

The valves are thermostatic, which means the shower holds the temperature you set rather than swinging hot or cold when a tap runs elsewhere in the house. That is the main safety benefit for anyone with reduced sensation or slower reactions. An optional warm-up mode can preheat the water first.

Yes. An optional wireless remote control lets you start the shower from outside the showering area, and an optional warm-up mode preheats the water. Between them you can have the water running at temperature before you step in. Both are optional extras rather than included as standard.

The controls have clear visual indicators, and LED and audible indicator options are available. Audible indicators help if your eyesight is limited, and the visual display helps if your hearing is. Both can be discussed when you specify the shower. Concealed fittings are available if you want a tidier finish.

Dual shower head control so you can run an overhead and a handset separately, a Flipstream shower head with multiple spray patterns, concealed fittings for a tidier finish, and matt black or brushed brass finishes alongside the standard options. All of these are specified when you order the shower.

A 10-year product guarantee. That differs from the up to 15 years quoted on the walk-in shower enclosures themselves, because the digital controls are a separate product with their own cover. Ask for both warranty terms in writing on your quote, so you know which cover applies to which part of the installation.

No. Replacing or upgrading a shower is internal home improvement work, so planning permission is not generally required. If your property is listed or you rent, check with the relevant party before booking any work. The work is all internal, so nothing about the outside of the property changes.

What our customers say

“The entire team from Mobility Plus did a marvellous job, from the initial planning, the stripping out of the old, to the replacement with new. The Designer, Project Manager, Electrician, the Fitters all worked well together to give us a lovely new shower room just right for our needs.”
